Agnes Varda was front and center of what, decades ago, was called the French New Wave and here she captures 1960s Paris in her enchanting portrait of a young pop singer experiencing her own crisis.Corinne Marchand plays the chanteuse who’s at loose ends as she wanders about Paris awaiting the results of a biopsy. Varda’s film, her second feature, chronicles her evening wandering the city as she confronts the possibility of illness and death. An imaginative mix of vivid vérité and heartful melodrama, it features a score by Michel Legrand (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg) and cameos by Jean-Luc Godard and Anna Karina.
