Witness: Graphic Novels on Attica and Kent State

Sunday, July 24

Live from the Orpheum
Presented by Inquiring Minds Bookstore

This multimedia presentation explores one of the most powerful movements in storytelling: history in graphic novel form. We’ll present scenes from two novels, Big Black: Stand at Attica, a 202 Eisner Award finalist, written and illustrated by Saugerties artist Jared Reinmuth; and John Derf Backderf’s Kent State: Four Dead in Ohio, the 2021 winner of the prestigious Eisner Award. And we’ll engage in conversation with our panel and audience. Reinmuth and Backderf will be joined via video by Amerziane, the illustrator of Big Black, and Daniel Meyers, an expert on prisoner rights and Attica. Andrea Gatzke, professor of history at SUNY New Paltz, and Christopher Livecchi, co-owner of World’s End Comics, will moderate.
