Upstate Films is the Hudson Valley’s premier independent cinema with two screens in Rhinebeck and one screen in Woodstock. Upstate Films’ mission is to bring the best in cinematic artistry in all its diversity to the Hudson Valley, using its power to expand both film literacy and community engagement. With more than 2100 members, Upstate boasts an excellent reputation for qualityprogramming and community collaboration. It is funded primarily through ticket sales, memberships and grants. It celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2022.

About the Job

Upstate Films is seeking a new Executive Director (ED) because the current Executive Director-Founders are retiring. The ED is responsible for programming and booking the three screens and helping to lead the organization’s staff. The ED also has primary responsibilty for fundraising and grant writing. The ED works closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), who also manages staffing, facilities, and memberships. Together they strategize for the fiscal heath of the organization and share responsibility for staff management. The ED as well as the CFO report to Upstate’s Board of Directors.

This is a full-time position. The salary is commensurate with experience and ranges from $60,000 to $70,000 year.  Benefits include health insurance and vacation.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Board is seeking an ED who will continue the mission, reinvigorate programs, and increase audiences. As the face of the organization, the ED will work in our theaters on a weekly basis to maintain the hands-on presence our audiences value.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience programming & booking a broad range of films
  • Experience writing grants and fundraising
  • Experience managing a business (Upstate’s current operating budget is $900,000)
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite and QuickBooks
  • Proficiency in social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
