Listen to this: For Lee “Scratch” Perry’s approval of this documentary, he requested that the filmmakers bring $5000 in a paper bag to a dinner with Perry’s ex-wives and children. This was all of course before his passing. Naturally, this should raise a few questions about the Grammy Award-winning Jamaican music star, and we cannot promise that this movie will answer any of them. However, we can surmise that eight days they spent interviewing the eccentric dub maverick was as electrifying as his style. Narrated by Benecio Del Toro, and made with a curious source of Argentinian trucking money, this movie is how Lee “Scratch” Perry sees Lee “Scratch” Perry. We wouldn’t want it any other way. (dir. “Adam Bhala Lough and Ethan Higbee managed to vividly and successfully portray what made the heaven-by-way-of-Jamaica revolutionary free and freaky, as well as what brought him down to earth for a time.” – Flood Magazine
