Monday, May 20 – 7:00p – post-screening Q&A w/ dir. Alison O’Daniel via skype

From 2011 to 2013, tubas were stolen from Los Angeles high schools. Filmmaker Alison O’Daniel used this perplexing news story as a jumping-off point to explore music, community, and many other nuanced parts to this emotive and prismatic documentary. This is not a story about thieves or missing tubas. Instead, it asks what it means to listen. (dir. Alison O’Daniel, U.S, 2023, 92m)

“O’Daniel is able to command the medium in an invigorating manner. (For) audiences that surrender to its unconventional tactics, the reward is the opportunity to rediscover the familiar with a fresh set of eyes and ears.” —Variety
