A cinematic journey that sounds the alarm that’s been ringing for more than a decade – no bees, no food.
IN PERSON: Wednesday, December 4th at 8:10pm – director/cinematographer Peter Nelson & executive producer Sally Roy.
Seventy per cent of agriculture – think fruits, nuts, vegetables – depends on bees’ pollination. But recent studies show that the bee population is disappearing putting us all in jeopardy. To remedy this, hard-core beekeepers drive their truckloads of honey bees all over the United States as they pollinate the flowers that become edibles and keep the food chain from complete breakdown. The many challenges the beekeepers and their bees face en route reveal flaws to our simplified and toxic chemically dependent agriculture system. Along the way, farmers, scientists, chefs and academics provide perspective about the threats to honey bees, what it means to our food security, and what we need to do.
