Part of the ARThouse and CLOSE UP series

Sunday, July 7 7:00p – post-screening Q&A  w/dir. Shaun Irons + cast members Scott Shepherd and Vin Knight

The trailblazing theater troupe Elevator Repair Service is performing Ulysses at the Fisher Center June 20-July 14. The company’s recent history includes its acclaimed work Gatz, during which every word of The Great Gatsby is voiced and enacted onstage. Director Shaun Irons was there to capture the company in this observational and poetic documentary, shot over five days in London, Standing By does not attempt to be a document of a performance of Gatz; it’s the flip side, a peek  behind the play’s backdrop  marking time as the story of The Great Gatsby unfolds. After the screening, Irons will join cast members Scott Shepherd and Vin Knight.

Shaun Irons is a hybrid artist who makes interdisciplinary performances, multimedia installations, experimental films, documentaries and interactive video scores to accompany live performance, often collaborating with Lauren Petty as AutomaticRelease. Recent projects include All Over Everywhere, a multimedia live performance and requiem for an imperiled planet, Why Why Always, a live cine-performance inspired by Jean-Luc Godard’s seminal film Alphaville, and Lessons In Lost Time, an in progress feature-length narrative film with Saori Tsukada and Jim Fletcher (Gatsby in ERS’s Gatz).
