Set in the not-too-distant past of 1980’s New York City, the lonely character DOG decides to build himself a robot friend. Together, they get into fun adventures, until one fateful summer night, when DOG is forced to abandon ROBOT at the beach. Will they ever meet again? Based on a short story by Sara Varon, and nominated for an Oscar, this animated film with a great 80’s-era soundtrack will tug at your heartstrings.  (dir. Pablo Berger, Spain/France, 2023, 102m)

Its radical sweetness arises from a wellspring of empathy. Its radiant colors and lucid conception of vulnerability in the face of a largely inconsiderate world, sink deep beneath the skin in the liminal space between the soul and the heart that can make animation such a wondrous medium. Berger’s Robot Dreams is its stunning reality.” –The Playlist
