Four men with checkered pasts are stuck in a small South American town. Their only chance of escape is to drive two trucks filled with unstable dynamite through a treacherous mountain path. With their cargo ready to ignite at the slightest bump, the four men must work together to survive. It’s hard to imagine Friedkin made this unruly thriller (especially the famous bridge scene) without CGI. Soundtrack by Tangerine Dream. (dir. William Friedkin, U.S., 1977, 121 min.)
“The film became an obsession. It was to be my magnum opus, the one on which I’d stake my reputation. I felt that every film I’d ever made was preparation for this one.” – William Friedkin
