Oscar-nominated director Lasse Hallstrom (MY LIFE AS A DOG, WHAT’S EATING GILBERT GRAPE) tells the unknown story of one of the world’s most visionary, revolutionary artists, the Swedish pioneer Hilma af Klint. Her works, largely forgotten for 70 years, provided a basis for modern art. Af Klint (played in her younger years by Tora Hallstrom and in her later years by Hallstrom’s mother Lena Olin) is revealed as a fearless, ambitious thinker, determined to use her art to create a map of the world that includes all that we cannot see. The historical figures Edvard Munch and Rudolf Steiner make appearances, too, offering a portrait of a fertile moment in the history of ideas. (Sweden, 2022, 114m)
“A vivid portrait of a visionary artist … celebrates, in fittingly enthralled, immersive fashion, the singular fusion of nature and spiritual mystery that drove her.” –Hollywood Reporter
