The David-and-Goliath story of Israel’s national baseball team, Heading Home tells the tale of the underdog crew that warmed the hearts of Jewish people across the globe as they competed in their very first World Baseball Classic.

After years of crushing defeats, Israel’s baseball team finally ranked among the world’s best in 2017, making them eligible to compete in the prestigious international tournament. Though their roster included many Jewish-American major leaguers, most had a tenuous relationship to Judaism, and barely any had ever set foot in Israel. Following them from the Holy Land where they are hailed as modern-day Maccabees, to the tournament in South Korea where they’re faced with debunking their reputations as has-beens and wannabes, Heading Home shows how the team became for its host country something similar to what the 1988 Bobsled team became for Jamaica. With their “Mensch on the Bench” mascot by their side, the connection the team forges to Israel pushes them to unexpected heights as they represent the country on the world stage.
