Sara Dosa shares a truly remarkable romance, between two scientists, Katia and Maurice Krafft, who bonded over their obsession with volcanoes. The documentary features a continuous flow of unfathomably beautiful footage of lavas and explosions and scientific derring-do … and serves as a primer on appreciating the work of researchers (the Kraffts’ work resulted in better understanding of eruptions, allowing more preventative measures). Their end, we learn early on, was tragic, but perhaps just the way they wanted it. Winner, Sundance Film Festival. (U.S., 2022, 93m)
