Based on a short story by Let the Right One In author John Ajvide Lindqvist, Border seamlessly fuses social commentary, fantasy, and psychological insight to tell the story of Tina (Eva Melander) — a woman born with a facial “disfiguration,” a strange scar on her tailbone, and the ability to sense or smell how people feel.

Especially adept at sensing fear or unease, Eva’s skills make her invaluable as a border guard. But her latest two attempted busts are more troubling than routine. First, there’s the twitchy businessman who turns out to be carrying child pornography, whose crime enrages Tina so much that she begins to take foolish risks when she’s brought in to help with the investigation. Then there’s the suspicious Vore (Eero Milonoff), who shares physical traits with Tina. She’s oddly drawn to him, and yet unsettled by his ever-present smirk. He looks at Tina in a way that suggests he knows things she doesn’t… things that may disrupt her life completely. As it twists and turns, Border emerges as an inventive and unforgettable work, conjuring up memories of cold, dark nights and unsettling folk tales.
