This show is FREE FOR MEMBERS… Happy Holidays!
The holidays may not be merry and bright, but they do provoke laughs in this dark comedy about a conman and his partner who run into problems when they pose as Santa and his Little Helper to rob department stores on Christmas Eve.
Once a year, Willie T. Stokes (Billy Bob Thornton) wakes up from his annual slumber to team up with his ill-tempered partner in crime, Marcus (Tony Cox). Theirs is a simple but ingenious plan: Willie, as a department store Santa, and Marcus, as his trusted elf, use their cover to crack mall security and rob stores blind just before Christmas. But their scheme is on the verge of falling apart. Willie is a bitter, foul-mouthed alcoholic who doesn’t care for kids, and it’s all he can do to keep himself from getting fired on the job. And when the mall’s manager (John Ritter, in his last film appearance) grows convinced that something’s wrong with the Santa he’s hired, he asks the mall’s chief of security (Bernie Mac) to keep tabs on Willie. Directed by Terry Zwigoff (Crumb, Ghost World), Bad Santa is a dark, misanthropic comedy that, while not for the whole family, may just be the perfect antidote to too much holiday cheer.
